Hi Darlings! I hope this post finds all of you having your week off to a great start. Excuse the lack of my posts lately; I’ve had a lot going on in my life beyond my blog and social media and just wasn’t able to post over the Memorial weekend holiday or really last week. We’ve also been having terrible weather on and off for the past few weeks, and it’s been hard to find time to plan photoshoots and often it ends up storming or just being dark and gray outside when I’m available. My girlfriend, Kristen, does my photos for me, so we work with her work schedule when doing the pictures as well. I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting over the last few weeks and have had some moments of personal growth, so I wanted to share with you what I’m calling my Mid-Year Resolutions. Oh and a super fun outfit with a whole lot of pink.

Personally, I don’t think it’s ever a bad time to set goals for yourself. I tend to be the type of person who needs concrete goals to achieve in order to get things done. Procrastinating is in my nature, I think it’s common with artists and creative people due to the fact that we don’t always have a steady stream of ideas coming in. Even with this blog, there are days when I have tons to write about, and days when I can barely think of anything exciting. After all, I’m a normal girl with a normal work life and my life isn’t just all fun and games and cute outfits to shoot. In fact more often than not, I am in sweatpants working on my art or sewing a dress, or sitting here at my computer typing. Anywho, I thought that setting some concrete goals for myself for my mid-year resolutions will help me better become the person I’m trying to be for the present and future.

One of my Mid-Year Resolutions is to only post outfits that are truly my style. Fun, creative, artsy, and full of whimsy and fantasy elements. When starting this blog, I had so many intentions of what it would become, and slowly but surely, my intentions are changing. I’m going to start posting about my art and my design work a lot more, and therefore, I want what I post about style or beauty to reflect my art and design aesthetic. As a whole, it’s fantasy inspired, a little surreal, and inspired by femininity. I wanted to wear a fun outfit to kick these ideas off, so hence the whole lot of pink you’ll see here. But it’s just so fun!

I picked up this princess cowgirl hat at a Party Supply recently and to be honest, I have no idea what I was thinking when I saw it. I just knew it was too much fun not to have, so pink, and would make a great accessory for SOMETHING. I look for any occasion to wear a costume, so even with this…what I would consider ‘regular outfit’, throwing on the hat just makes it so much more fun. I paired the hat with a blouse and skirt I got from H&M, a vintage slip underneath, and these amazing glitter boots I ordered online. I feel like a cowgirl princess doll or like what should be Woody’s female counterpart in Toy Story. Hence my next Mid-Year Resolution. Make a lot of costumes this year. I am so excited to start delving into making costumes, and I plan to reserve space on my blog and Youtube channel to discuss my work more in depth with you. For me, being a clothing designer, I have felt a little bit of emptiness in the past year only working on ready-to-wear items. Currently, I’m making a friend’s wedding dress, and that has just inspired me to take my designs so much farther. I’d love to start creating more costume type pieces along with wearable designs, just to keep myself as creative as possible. I love anything fantasy, and it inspires a lot of my work, so I figure why not take it all the way and make costumes! I think it will be so fun to blend that with everyday wearable fashion, and do a little bit of both. Plus, I can’t wait to make some pink princess and fairy dresses!

I have plans to go to at least a couple conventions this year, so I believe I will be doing my first cosplay costumes as well which is so exciting! I have always wanted to do cosplay, but have just never done it for one reason or another. Probably nerves, but we’ll pretend otherwise. For those of you that don’t know what cosplay is, it’s when you attend a convention like comic con or another event dressed as a character you like from a show, or movie, or book. I have so many ideas for what costumes I want to do! Recently I’ve been watching Once Upon A Time, and I’d love to cosplay Regina, the evil queen. I just think it would be so fun to make a costume inspired by her character on the show. Also Sailor Moon is a cosplay I’ve always wanted to do, so I’ll be doing that at some point as well. Maybe also a couple of my favorite characters from Anime shows I watch.

My next Mid-Year Resolution is to read a lot of books. And not just read books, but discuss them on my blog here and my Youtube channel. I have so many books I need to read sitting on my bookshelves, and I would like to make a goal to read 25 books by the end of the year, and at least 25 graphic novels/comics/manga. Those read much faster than regular books anyway, but I love to savor the artwork. I think sharing with you my love for literature and comics will help you understand a lot more about me as a person and what makes me tick. My interests beyond fashion are plenty, and I think it’s time to share them with you all. I mean theres got to be plenty of other nerd girls out there like me who also love art and fashion! We’re all such complex people, and I don’t want to ever appear flat by only talking about a couple of subjects.

My next Mid-Year Resolution is to try to always have positive energy. I know with this super pink princess outfit on it could seem like I’m just a bundle of joy all the time, but I’m a real person. I have a tendency to get emotional about things easily, and I want to learn to let things roll off my back more easily. I think focusing on making art and designing clothing and costumes that I really love will help a lot. For a long time I was focused on the idea of what does my customer want? Not necessarily what do I want to make. So I’d like to try to always keep a little pink sparkle princess cowgirl with me every day and not get in my own head about things.

Resolutions come in all shapes and sizes. The next thing I’d like to work on this year is making art, a lot of art. I want to try to draw every day to a certain degree. Even if that just means sketching or doing a watercolor sketch. I’d like to resolve to have a full sketchbook by the end of the year and at least 10 pieces of art that I am extremely proud of. Keeping an art journal is also really fun; I was doing that for a while too until my sewing work got to be a lot to handle. Do any of you guys art journal? I’d love to hear what you’re theme ideas are. This year I also want to focus on eating extremely healthy and getting my body feeling 100% as often as possible. I have TMJ and it causes headaches pretty frequently, so I’d like to work to get that sorted out as well as my tummy. I do tend to not feel well when I eat unhealthy, so staying on a path full of nutrient rich plant foods is important to me. Also, I’d like to give my body a month or so without any alcoholic beverages to see if that helps with my headaches that I have. It’s hard when you have a thriving social life, but I think with the exception of one or two days (my birthday is coming up and I have a big party) that I could do it. Do you guys have any tips for staying on track with a super healthy diet? I’d love to read any tricks you can give me.

These goals I’m setting, or resolutions- they’re important for sure, but I’m not going to let myself get so caught up in it that I become negative if I don’t reach the goal. I think that is a really important thing to remember. It’s good to set goals, but don’t get mad if you don’t exactly achieve it; just work hard and that’s enough. I just want to keep myself on track to being the best artist, designer, and pink sparkle princess cowgirl that I can be! But seriously! Isn’t this outfit too cute? I went to H&M (Which I VERY rarely go inside of) to look for something to wear with my outfit to the renaissance faire recently, and I saw these two fun pieces. I knew they were things I’d wear aside from the one outfit, but I couldn’t resist putting a totally pink outfit together and pairing it with my good witch boots. Outfit details are below, or just click on the little sliding pictures to take you directly to how to buy them!

I hope you guys have an amazing rest of the week. I’m looking forward to sharing more fun things with you this week and working on some fun new pieces! Hopefully my mid-year resolutions will all come to fruition, and you all enjoyed hearing me talk about what I’m hoping to do for the rest of the year. I think it’s good for me to get these goals out in the open, so that I’m not the only one holding myself accountable! Maybe if you have mid-year resolutions or goals you’d like to set, you can feel good about me sharing mine and us being on a journey together! But while you’re goal setting, may you bring lot’s of positivity into the process and know that change and growth is inevitable and healthy for all of us. Life isn’t a competition, it’s meant to be fun, but it’s always good to challenge yourself to do more when you know you can.
